Last weekend on Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson outraged the internet by performing a DANGEROUS stunt.
Or, in other words, 7 out of the 5.3 million viewers complained after Jezza did a ‘lap of his car’.
This involved Clarkson climbing out of the driver’s window, over the roof and back into the car while the vehicle was still moving – the aim being to complete the circuit before the car rolled to a halt.
True, it’s not the safest practice for Clarkson to demonstrate on a driving show, but there are definitely more dangerous things that the Top Gear guys have had to pull off…
The caravan holiday
The boys are no fans of caravans, true, but was it really necessary to exterminate this one so thoroughly?
American Road Trip - travelling through Alabama
The entire aim of this challenge was for the boys to get each other shot and/or arrested by inflaming the god-fearing residents of the American Deep South.
They very nearly succeeded.
The level crossing awareness advert
This was less a danger to the guys themselves than just amusing, wilful destruction of a car to prove a point. (That point being how dangerous level crossings are.)
The Polar Race
Hugely ambitious, the Polar Challenge saw May and Clarkson, in a car, racing Hammond on a dog sled to the magnetic north pole. If the car made it, they would be the first to reach that point in a motor vehicle.
Not only did the boys face frostbite and polar bears (kind of), they were driving, very literally, on thin ice.
The Build-a-Train Challenge
The aim was to find a cheaper alternative to expensive train carriages, so the guys built their own trains – one from 4 caravans and the other, a “sports train”, from a Jaguar and an open-top carriage.
Both trains met mishaps, as Jeremy in the Jag nearly collided head-on with another train, while Hammond and May had to deal with a small case of fire.
Hammond’s near-death experience
Every Top Gear fan remembers the news that the Hamster had been racing a jet-powered drag-racing car at about 288mph when the tyre burst, flipping the car. After being rushed to hospital with serious head injuries, he, thankfully, made a full recovery.
Have you been watching Top Gear’s 21st series? You should definitely switch on this weekend – Tom Hiddleston’s in the Reasonably Priced Car.
